Subwoofer!

I installed the HSU Research VTF-2 MK 2 subwoofer today for the first time. It is going to be interesting that's for sure. The first thing I did was play the test CD that came with the sub. There are five tracks with classical pipe organ music which are. Even more interesting were twelve tracks with low frequency third octave warble tones--which just means very low notes played for 20-50 seconds within 5 Hz of the target tone (i.e. 25 Hz +/-5 Hz) or at least that's what I've figured out so far :-).

After the test CD I just listened to music, whatever was on my iTunes. It was great. I played it loud and played it strong. My main Kef Q55 speakers were very clear and once in a while I got a hint of the sub kicking in. It was sweet.

As I listened I read over some of the materials I have about the sub and how to tune it. It will be important for me to remember the sub has two ports on the back. For music, there is a dampener to close one port which tightens up the bass. For movies, the dampener is removed to give maximum extension of the bass. It was interesting . . .
