Drywall Time!

It has been quite a while since my last post. Mostly this is due to the busy schedule we all keep these days. Work (making money) gets in the way of having fun like building Men's Land. Nevertheless, bits and pieces have been accomplished over the last couple months including the installation of the first drywall. Here's what the new drywall looks like:
Notice the "nook" is also drywalled and the base for our cabinet is set in the nook. When it all needs to get taped and mudded, I'll take the cabinet base out. I should also mention that "Bob the Painter" will be coming at the end of June to hang and finish the drywall and will then paint the ceiling. We're really looking forward to this as it will be the most noticeable Men's Land transformation since the studs put the studwalls up.

Dad and I also worked on the wall that is next to the stairs as you come down into Men's Land. It was previously somewhat wobbly, so we put in some reinforcements. Here is what it looks like: Especially where the light switches are we added in some 2 x 4s and a rectangular box made out of 2 x 4s to stiffen the whole wall up. It made a huge difference. The all is now much more rigid. The other piece we did here is hard to see in the picture but on the front of all the 2 x 4s you can see in the picture, we added on a 1/4" strip of pine. Why you ask? The metal support pole you can see in the middle of the wall sticks out farther than the 2 x 4 wall. If we didn't do something to bring the studs out further, there would be a bow in the drywall when it is installed . . . that's why. As I said, it is fairly unnoticeable, but it will be a big improvement over what it would have been.

The last thing to share today is a picture of one of our new Men's Land stools:
There are currently two stools just like this one. They were birthday gifts from the MLK staff . . . Thanks :-) If you haven't read the rest of the story about this, CLICK HERE.
